Preparing for a new baby is exciting, but after three kids I have a pretty good idea of what is necessary for the hospital bag and what you should leave at home. Here’s a list of essentials to keep you comfortable every stage of your hospital stay.
Comfortable Gown or Robe: Choose a loose, breathable gown or robe not shirt and pants pjs. It doesn’t matter if you give natural birth or c-section a robe is the way to go.
Slippers: Hospitals can be cold and since you will be getting up for feeding at all hours of the night is best that you have warm feet. Also you should take flip-flops for the shower even if you have a private room.
Water Bottle: Labor and the C-Section can be long and exhausting my water bottle save my life, I took my Ello Bottle Water (32oz) and put it in my bag. I drank water as soon as I could.
High-Waisted or Disposable Underwear: Bring a comfortable, high-waisted underwear to wear postpartum. I used the maternity diapers and they were awesome and easy to change after a C-Section.
Toiletries: The biggest must have is the pack travel-sized essentials like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, and face wash to freshen up. Nothing like getting refreshed after being laying down on the hospital bed for 24 hours after C-Section.
Loose, Comfortable Clothes for Going Home: Bring something soft like loose pants, a stretchy dress, or sweatpants don’t worry about looking like a queen, you already are, is best to be comfortable on that car ride on the way home.
Pillow and Blanket a cozy blanket and your own pillow for extra comfort. There are hospitals in Puerto Rico that require you to bring a clean blanket for after you C-Section.
Phone Charger: Keep yourself communicated, even more if you don’t want visits and you can update via text.
